WWF AND CORPORATE AMERICA: GOOD CHOICES

So today, we are going to be focusing on two great companies that are working with WWF to green their practices and also help their consumers be more green as well.
Today, the Coca-Cola Company and WWF announced new targets to improve water efficiency and reduce carbon emissions with their system-wide operations.  The partnership began in 2007, with $20 million in funds, but the project has just been expanded for another 2 years and $3.75 million.

Coca-Cola will prevent 2 million tons of carbon emissions by 2015 with the reduction targets they have made.  The company is also part of WWF's Climate Savers program, in which corporations worldwide work with WWF to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
In addition, they are working on conserving the world's most important freshwater basins- the Yangtze, Mekong, Danube, Rio Grande/Rio Bravo, Lakes Niassa and Chiuta, the Mesoamerican reef catchments, and the lakes and streams of the southeastern U.S.

?Water and energy conservation are areas where we can truly make a difference. Last year, we set a goal to return to communities and to nature an amount of water equal to what we use in our beverages and their production. These targets support our work to achieve that goal,? said Muhtar Kent, president and CEO of The Coca-Cola Company.
Coca-Cola will also be promoting sustainable agriculture practices, mainly with sugarcane production.  Both WWF and Coca-Cola will be partnering with the Better Sugarcane Initiative to revamp sugarcane agriculture and production practices.

Williams-Sonoma Inc., which also consists of Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, PBteen, West Elm and Williams-Sonoma Home, has also paired up with WWF for another green initiative.  The company has joined the Global Forest and Trade Network (GFTN), which is aimed at saving the world's most valuable and threatened forests.
?At Williams-Sonoma, Inc., we believe in responsible management of natural resources. In partnership with GFTN, we will take our wood sourcing to one of the highest standards in the industry,? said Laura Alber, President of Williams-Sonoma, Inc.
By joining GFTN, Williams-Sonoma Inc. has committed themselves to increasing the portion of wood products that come from credible, certified forests, and will be moving away from undesirable or unknown wood sources.

Fact:  deforestation accounts for 30% of all global carbon emissions.
